Glossary of IndiaMART seller terms

The vocabulary of IndiaMART BuyLeads and lead automation, defined plainly.

Quick answer

The core terms: a BuyLead is a buyer requirement; credits unlock the buyer's contact details; consumption is spending them, and a limited number of suppliers can consume the same lead; approved and restricted keywords decide relevance; test mode validates rules without spending; and speed to lead is usually what decides who wins the buyer.

BuyLead
A buyer's purchase requirement posted on IndiaMART and shared with suppliers in the matching category. The requirement is visible free; the buyer's contact details are unlocked by spending BuyLead credits.
BuyLead credit
The unit spent to unlock a buyer's contact details on a BuyLead. Credits come with your IndiaMART seller package and are deducted whether or not the lead proves useful.
Consumption
The act of spending credits to unlock a BuyLead. Once a limited number of suppliers have consumed a lead — commonly cited as six — it closes to further suppliers.
Recent BuyLeads
The view in the IndiaMART seller panel showing newly posted requirements. The page most active sellers refresh through the day, because freshness strongly affects who reaches the buyer first.
Lead age
How long ago a BuyLead was posted. Low lead age is the strongest single predictor of whether you will be among the first suppliers to call.
Member age
How long the buyer has been registered on IndiaMART. Sometimes used as a signal when judging whether an enquiry is serious.
Verified contact
A buyer's mobile or email that IndiaMART has confirmed, as opposed to merely listed. Requiring verified rather than available contact details reduces the number of unlocked leads that never connect.
Lead Manager
IndiaMART's own interface for handling enquiries received through your account. Distinct from BuyLeads, which are requirements you choose to buy into.
Approved keyword
A term that, when found in a BuyLead, marks it as potentially relevant to what you sell. The positive half of a keyword-based filter.
Restricted keyword
A term that disqualifies a BuyLead even when an approved keyword also matched — used to block adjacent products, grades or services you do not offer. Usually the highest-value part of a keyword set.
Auto picker
A tool that automatically consumes BuyLeads matching your configured rules, rather than requiring a person to click each one.
Test mode
Running the full qualification rule set with picking disabled, so every decision is logged with its reason but no credits are spent. The correct way to validate a new keyword set.
Auto-stop
A configured ceiling on how many leads a session may pick, so a misconfigured rule cannot spend an entire credit balance.
Rejection reason
The recorded explanation for why a lead was not picked — no approved keyword, lead age over threshold, wrong region, missing contact details. Reviewing these is the main mechanism for improving a rule set.
India mode
A configuration in which location filtering uses Indian state rules, for sellers serving the domestic market.
Export mode
A configuration in which location filtering uses country allow-lists, for sellers targeting international buyers.
Speed to lead
The elapsed time between a buyer posting a requirement and a supplier making contact. On a platform where several suppliers can buy the same lead, this is often the deciding factor.
